(THE COMFY SOFA, My House, Annapolis, Maryland) February 09, 2015— Valentine’s Day – that love it or hate it holiday – is fast approaching! While us cats are relatively chill about the holiday (as we are with most things), sometimes our humans can get a bit worked up about it. Thus, it is good to keep in mind the top three ways that cats can make the best out of Valentine’s Day.
1. Your trash, my treasure – Valentine’s Day can often mean gifts for my human and that equals empty boxes, bags, or ribbons for me (if I’m lucky, maybe a ball of tape too)! Just remember, if I fit, I sit.
2. Nibble on something new – I’ve noticed that my humans get a bit angry when I sample the plants and some new ones typically show up around this time! Hurrah! Unsure what the problem is, don’t humans eat plants too?
3. Find a new bed – Humans don’t know it, but anything made of paper makes the BEST bed ever! It’s great when Valentine’s Day rolls around, so many beds, so little time!
Though all of these are great, they can make for a bit of a tense situation in the household. I think occasionally my humans gets confused and believe my name is “No, stop, don’t do that.” Seriously, it is Stanley and we all know that to a cat, no means yes. Therefore, I offer a few tips to those tall beings that cohabitate with me: Pack up the small packaging that I might ingest (ribbons, rubber bands, small pieces of plastic), as these are usually the ones I like the best; put any new plants, especially if you don’t know if they can harm me, up high and out of reach; and lastly, if you can’t find an important piece of paper, always remember to look under the cat.
